Myth has long been one of the foremost ways to express wisdom in any tradition in the world. Whether Greek, Egyptian, Indian or African, the mythology of a people often carries with it the collected wisdom of countless generations of people. Everything from righteous living in day to day life to the ultimate mysteries of this universe and beyond is expressed in the mythology of a people. Mythology is the “dictionary of life,” whereby the events, characters, and patterns we witness in our own lives are put into the context of a wider world, a wider reality. In these posts – “Gesegena,” which means “what was said” – we’ll investigate the Germanic wisdom tradition through the myths and stories that have been handed down to us through sagas, the eddas, folklore, and other sources.
